FAQs for Candidates

I‘ve been working in a field other than development for 10 years; would you consider my background for a development position?   Yes, because many of the skills that make people successful in various careers are applicable to advancement. We have helped numerous nontraditional candidates make excellent career transitions.

How do I get started in development? How do I get an interview with a development leader?   The best way is to work with a recruiter who is active in nontraditional development searches and can introduce you to clients who have indicated interest in hiring qualified candidates from other fields. Leodas Search Group is recognized as a leader in nontraditional searches.

Do you offer career counseling or resume help?   We do on request and for an hourly fee provide resume review and career-transition consulting. Please contact Suzanne Isack (sisack@leodasgroup.com) for more information.

What is the long-term potential of a development career?   The potential in an advancement career is limitless. Long term, there are many opportunities for growth, whether you start in a major gift, planned giving, annual fund, foundation, or corporate relations role.

What can I expect to be paid?   Compensation is contingent on your overall experience and education, as well as the position for which you are applying.

Do development positions require a lot of travel?   The amount of travel varies from institution to institution as well as from position to position. While many advancement positions require significant time on the road, others involve only simple overnights and/or day trips.
